Bro-cam: Improving Game Experience with Empathic Feedback Using Posture Tracking

چکیده
In todays videogames user feedback is often provided through raw statistics and scoreboards. We envision that incorporating empathic feedback matching the player’s current mood will improve the overall gaming experience. In this paper we present Bro-cam, a novel system that provides empathic feedback to the player based on their body postures. Different body postures of the players are used as an indicator for their openness. From their level of openness, Bro-cam profiles the players into different personality types ranging from introvert to extrovert. Empathic feedback is then automatically generated and matched to their preferences for certain humoristic feedback statements. We use a depth camera to track the player’s body postures and movements during the game and analyze these to provide customized feedback. We conducted a user study involving 32 players to investigate their subjective assessment on the empathic game feedback. Semi-structured interviews reveal that participants were positive about the empathic feedback and Bro-cam significantly improves their

To Buzz or not to Buzz: Improving awareness of posture through vibrotactile feedback
The iPostureTM is a commercially available device which claims to improve posture. It is designed to deliver a vibrotactile buzz if the wearer slouches. We present the finding of a preliminary study evaluating the user experience of wearing it. Contrary to company claims, users found that it did not show them how to improve their posture but the buzzing did improve their body awareness.

In this paper, we present three different ways of interrupting people to posture guidance. We developed an ergonomically adjustable office chair equipped with four sensors measuring the office worker’s posture. It is important that users do some training after bad posture and be alerted of this; therefore, we implemented three different alert modalities (Graphical Feedback, Physical Feedback, a...

This paper considers the problem of adaptive output feedback tracking control for a class of nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying delays and unknown backlash-like hysteresis. Fuzzy logic systems are used to estimate the unknown nonlinear functions. Based on the Lyapunov–Krasovskii method, the control scheme is constructed by using the backstepping and adaptive techniqu...
متن کاملThe neuroanatomical basis of empathy: is empathy impaired following damage to the ventromedial prefrontal cortex?
Empathy plays a crucial role in our relationships with others and enhances personal well-being. The brain areas that are critical for the experience of on-line empathy and empathic behavior are not known. The current study investigated the neural substrates of empathy through the examination of whether the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (VMPC) is critical for empathy. For the first time, on-lin...

Within the field of Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs), the simulation of emotions has been suggested as a means to enhance the believability of ECAs and also to effectively contribute to the goal of more intuitive human–computer interfaces. Although various emotion models have been proposed, results demonstrating the appropriateness of displaying particular emotions within ECA applications ...
